Apoccas

What is APOCCAS' philosophy?
The company's philosophy is simple yet powerful: to combine ancient wisdoms with luxurious and soft natural fabric treasures which follow strict principles of sustainability and social responsibility, including fair trade and carbon offset values.

Apoccas

Does APOCCAS contribute to charity?
No, not at this stage. APOCCAS prefers to invest in and run its own community projects to donating money to charities. This is not to say that we don’t respect charity & not-for-profit organisations for the good work they do; it simply means that our philosophy is to make a difference in locations and for people we know and where we remain in control of how our company’s financial contributions are allocated. A significant percentage of the APOCCAS’ profits is earmarked to be reinvested in select rural community projects to help foster traditional craftsmanship. We believe that if you “give a man a fish … you [will] feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime.” ~Chinese Proverb

Apoccas

Is APOCCAS certified organic?
At the moment APOCCAS is not a certified organic company.
NOW:
  • The majority of APOCCAS' yarns are natural and certified organic (EU-Flower) where possible. Please note that cotton yarn, whether organic, of Supima quality, mercerized or hand-spun, tends to be less soft than materials such as polyester (which we don’t use) or rayon, which we use in moderation; we are currently in the planning and testing stages so we can soon replace all rayon yarns currently in use with clima controlled Bamboo yarn and/or cotton-silk blends to ensure luxurious softness of our fabrics.
  • APOCCAS is in the process to offsets its carbon footprint with Carbon Footprint; they are our chosen ‘green’ consultant to help us reduce and offset our carbon footprint.
  • As for our packaging, APOCCAS uses recycled envelopes as an outer layer for its customer deliveries; the inner layer, our designer product packaging, is made from 100% Saa paper, which is made from Mulberry trees, native to northern Thailand. These trees regenerate themselves perennially. The Saa paper industry creates locally important income for 20,000 bark collectors around the Thai–Lao border and for disadvantaged groups such as women and older people involved in craft making. It is estimated to generate employment for a total of about 30,000 people. APOCCAS uses only natural Saa paper, which is not chemically dyed, to preserve to the environment. We do not use Sellotape, metal pins, paper clips, or threads or ribbons made from man-made fibres for our packaging. In addition to Saa paper sheets, which form the base of our packaging, we use Saa paper ribbons and 100% organic cotton yarn with Swiss eco-friendly dyes (EU-Flower certified) for our twisted designer packaging rope. Saa paper is also used for all of our paper tags and greeting cards and envelopes; the paper tags are attached to our products with 100% natural rope made from Water Hyacinth.
  • All APOCCAS textile products come with care and composition labels made from 100% organic cotton yarn with Swiss eco-friendly dyes (EU-Flower certified), hand-woven into cloth. The labels are embroidered with same organic cotton yarn thread.

Each day APOCCAS attempts to improve its efforts to have the smallest possible negative impact on our environment.

Our ambition is to be GOTS certified in the near future. The Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) is the worldwide leading textile processing standard for organic fibres, including ecological and social criteria. The aim of the standard is to define worldwide-recognized requirements that ensure an organic status for textiles; from the harvesting of the raw materials, through to environmentally and socially responsible manufacturing up to the labelling stage.

The APOCCAS website shows every item that we currently have in stock. If a style, colour or size (where applicable) isn't shown, it is sold out or no longer available and the message ‘out of stock’ will be displayed. Please be aware that even if an item is in your shopping cart, it can still be bought by another customer until you have completed your order. To avoid missing out on our featured items, we encourage you to act swiftly. If the item you would like to buy is out of stock, please email us at contact@apoccas.com and we will keep you informed if your desired size (where applicable), colour or style becomes available again.

In exceptional circumstances it might happen an item you would like to purchase is no longer in stock after you have submitted your order to us. The APOCCAS team will then notify you about this item and changes will be reflected in your order total.

Apoccas

Can you reserve an item to buy later?
At the moment APOCCAS does not provide a holding service.

No, we have a no sales policy. APOCCAS offers an alternative to the traditional two-season fashion model. APOCCAS is more of a lifestyle than a fashion brand. It sells power scarves and other items of hand-woven cloth which service a customer’s need or desire at anytime. Garments of lighter and heavier weaves made from cashmere, cotton and silk are offered all year around, regardless of seasons, to recognize the increased frequency of international travel and the need to adapt to different climates and temperatures. New items arrive throughout the year and sell out when they sell out.

Unfortunately APOCCAS has no control whatsoever over additional charges in relation to customs clearance and import duties and taxes. Please check with your local customs officials for all necessary information regarding your online order.

Apoccas

DELIVERY

Apoccas

How soon after purchase will I receive my order?
As a rule it can take up to two working days (48 hours) to prepare an order for shipping, in particular for the processing of the order, the preparation and packaging of the products, and drawing-up of the invoice, before the dispatch of the available products. Estimated Royal Mail delivery times are to be used as a guide only and commence from the date of dispatch. The transport lead timescales offered to the customer through Royal Mail is ‘First Class’ within the UK and ‘Airmail Small Packet’ for deliveries outside the UK. ‘First Class’ deliveries are aimed within 1 business day; ‘Airmail Small Packet’ deliveries are aimed within 5 business days.

APOCCAS is not responsible for any delays caused by destination customs clearance processes. Please read the chapters ‘Shipping lead times’ and ‘Transport lead times’ in our Terms and Conditions carefully.

Apoccas

Can I track my order?
No. APOCCAS has opted for Royal Mail as the dedicated shipping partner. If tracking your shipment is important to you, please email us at contact@apoccas.com. Royal Mail offers a ‘Registered Mail’ service in the UK and ‘International Signed for Small Packets’ and ‘Airsure’ services for international (ex-UK) shipments. We are happy to quote customers who wish to opt for those additional services.

Apoccas

Which countries does APOCCAS ship to?
APOCCAS currently ships to all European countries (EU and non-EU) and North America (US and Canada). You will be able to select your country when placing your order. If your country is not listed and you wish to place an order on the APOCCAS website, please contact us by e-mail contact@apoccas.com

Please note: it has been brought to our attention that customs authorities in Russia have recently tightened restrictions on import shipments to Russia. As a consequence, non-document shipments sent to private individuals now undergo extraordinary scrutiny leading to an increased number of delays in delivery.

Apoccas

Does APOCCAS ship to Post Office boxes or forwarding addresses?
APOCCAS can currently only fulfil an order to a delivery address which is a residential or an office address. Please note that purchases will not be delivered to forwarding addresses and that purchases may not be shipped to Post Office boxes.

Apoccas

Does APOCCAS ship to multiple addresses?
We ship to one address per order. Your billing address is default address for shipment. Please make sure you put in a delivery address in case this is different from your billing address. Also note that most shipping companies deliver during working hours, so we recommend that you put your work address as delivery address, provided that you are able to do that by your employer. If your order contains gifts or items that require shipping to multiple locations, you will need to place separate orders for each address.

Apoccas

Can I change my shipping address after I have placed my order?
If you would like to change your shipping address after you have placed your order, please request an address replacement by contacting us at contact@apoccas.com. Please note however that APOCCAS is unable to redirect orders to a different address once the goods have been dispatched by Royal Mail. Therefore, please ensure you provide a suitable shipping address.

Apoccas

How much will I be charged for shipping?
Our online order system is designed to calculate automatically the correct flat fee delivery cost per item based on your country of delivery. Multiple purchases to the same delivery address may be charged at a discounted rate to the multiple of the flat fee rates per item. Handling and packaging costs are included in the delivery fee. The customer will be informed of the exact fees (and additional taxes) before final validation of the order. For our customers outside the European Union, please note that all possible custom charges incurred are your own responsibility.

Apoccas

Should my package be insured when I return goods?
In case you need to return the received goods we also recommend that you insure the return shipment. You are held responsible for the goods until they reach us at our address. The customer is held liable for damage and under duty to take reasonable care of the goods until we receive them back Please read Cancellations, returns and exchanges in our Terms and Conditions.

Apoccas

Will my package be delivered on weekends?
For domestic UK deliveries, Royal Mail does deliver on Saturday but not on Sunday. Business days are Monday through Saturday. For all other deliveries this will depend on the local partner of Royal Mail in the delivery country.

Apoccas

Do I need to sign for my order?
In order to avoid post office customer collections for items which may have arrived at the delivery address in the absence of our customers we process our shipments currently without customer signatures upon receipt of their order. Once any goods are delivered the responsibility for your purchased goods passes to you.

Apoccas

My package is delivered damaged?
Upon delivery, please check that the package is not damaged or wet or tampered with in any way. Any damage in the packaging and/or the product or any discrepancy between the number of packages delivered, should be immediately notified by email to contact@apoccas.com.

Simply login to your APOCCAS account on the website and go to the ‘Returns and exchanges’ section. Tick the appropriate boxes and choose the reason for your exchange or return. Please note that we are only able to exchange items for a different size (where applicable) and that all exchanges are subject to availability.

All items are quality controlled and checked for any faults before they are dispatched from the APOCCAS office to its customers. However, if a product is faulty, please provide details and a photo, on which we can clearly see the faulty item (please note that items that are damaged as a result of wear and tear are not considered to be faulty).

In case you would like a different item instead, we suggest you return the items first for store credit. Please note, store credit is only valid for one year from the issue date and can be used to purchase the new desired item(s).

After you have entered all necessary information in the ‘Returns and exchange’ section of your APOCCAS account (within 14 days after receiving your order) you will receive a Returns Merchandise Authorization (hereinafter called ‘RMA’) by email from your APOCCAS contact person. After receiving your RMA code, we will send you all the details in an e-mail informing you how to complete your return. Please follow these instructions carefully.

Products should be received within 14 days of receiving the return number (RMA) on the following address:  APOCCAS LIMITED – ‘Returns and exchanges – Berger House, 36-38 Berkeley Square, London W1J 5AE, United Kingdom. Please take care that the goods are adequately protected in transit.

Items should be returned unused, unworn and unwashed. All items returned should have a return number (RMA) to allow easy identification and prompt processing. Unidentified returns may be returned to the sender. Where provided, any designer packaging, authenticity cards, hangtags, labels, scarf or bracelet bags (where applicable) or any other should be included with your return. Please email contact@apoccas.com if any of your purchases have been delivered without APOCCAS tags.

Please send all items you wish to return from an order in the same shipment to ensure your return is processed as quickly as possible.
Returns that are damaged or soiled may not be accepted and may be sent back to the customer (at your expense) and/or refused a refund.

Please read carefully the chapter Cancellations, returns and exchanges in our Terms and Conditions.

Apoccas

Can I exchange a purchased item?
Yes, there is no charge to exchange an item for a different size (if applicable). All size exchanges depend on stock availability. Transportation needs to be arranged by the customer and return shipping costs are to be paid by the customer as well. Please be sure to note clearly on the transportation form that the item is being sent back as an exchange, otherwise additional costs at the customs might incur. Upon reception and acceptance of the merchandise for exchange, APOCCAS will send an email notification to the customer and the replacement will be processed within 48 hours.  Please read carefully the chapter Cancellations, returns and exchanges in our Terms and Conditions.

Apoccas

International returns
Due to the sometimes lengthy delivery and customs clearance time for international orders, we would greatly appreciate if Return Merchandise Authorization (RMA) requests for all international orders be made 48 hours of receipt of delivery (even though you are entitled to return the products after giving a formal written notice of return within 14 days following the delivery date of the goods). For full information about international returns, please contact contact@apoccas.com.

Apoccas

I returned an item; when will I get my refund and will I be refunded the full value of my order?
All return shipping costs inherent on returning the products are to be paid by the customer. We accept returns of our products only if the item is still in its original condition and from the original delivery address. This means it is unworn, unwashed and has all the different tags attached. It should also be returned in its original packaging.

Upon acceptance of the merchandise for return, APOCCAS will send you an email notification and the refund (the value of the returned goods at the time of purchase and the original shipping cost) will be processed within 30 business days. Your refund will either be credited to the original payment method used or on your APOCCAS account in the form of store credit, whichever is applicable. We do not return gift card value as money on your account. The only refund option for this is in the form of store credit.

Please note card refunds may take up to 10 business days for your bank to complete, depending on processing time. This can vary greatly between card issuers, and unfortunately we are unable to influence this.

In case the returned item is not in the original condition or cannot be resold APOCCAS reserves the right to refuse the refund or to claim partial repayment of the price of the product.

Please read carefully the chapter Cancellations, returns and exchanges in our Terms and Conditions.

Apoccas

Will customs duties/taxes be refunded on a return?
Outside the European Union, customs duties and sales taxes are non-refundable through APOCCAS. However, you may be able to recover these by contacting your local customs bureau directly. As this may not be available for all countries, we recommend that you hire a customs broker if you wish to claim back duties on returned merchandise. Please read carefully the chapter Cancellations, returns and exchanges in our Terms and Conditions.
MATERIAL INFORMATION

Apoccas

What does ‘’organic” cotton mean?
Organic cotton is generally understood as cotton, which is grown from non-genetically modified plants and without the use of any synthetic agricultural chemicals such as fertilizers or pesticides. Only a little of 1% of the world’s global cotton production is labelled organic.

This matters.

Cotton covers 2.5% of the world’s cultivated land yet it uses 16-25% of the world’s insecticides. It uses 10-16% of the world’s entire pesticides (including herbicides, insecticides and defoliants). The chemicals used in the processing pollute the air and surface waters.

Cotton pickers suffer from blisters, skin rashes and have a considerably lower life expectancy.

APOCCAS uses organic cotton where possible to create a more sustainable and socially responsible future for our eco systems and their inhabitants. Our organic cotton, originating from Turkey, is EU Flower certified. For further information on EU Flower and Eco-label please check the EU-Commission guidelines.

Apoccas

What is ‘mercerised’ cotton?
Mercerisation is a treatment for cotton fabric and thread that gives fabric or yarns a lustrous appearance and increased durability; it alters the chemical structure of the cotton fibre. Mercerising results in the swelling of the cell wall of the cotton fibre. This causes increase in the surface area and reflectance, and gives the fibre a softer feel. An optional last step in the process is passing the thread over an open flame; this incinerates stray fibres, improving the fabric's appearance. This is known as "gassing the thread" due to the gas burner that is typically used. APOCCAS uses both mercerised Supima® cotton and mercerised organic cotton yarn for its hand-woven products. Although mercerised and hence more durable, the latter is often not strong enough to withstand the tension and considerable friction during weaving on a handloom warps due to its shorter fibres and more irregular quality – a result of the organic production. In those instances we currently have to resort to Supima cotton; we are continuing to work on solutions to improve the sustainability of our materials and processes. We refer our customers to the care and composition product labels so they can make an informed choice about their purchase.

Apoccas

What does the certificate ‘EU-Flower’ stand for?
Recognised throughout Europe the European Eco-label, with its EU-Flower symbol, is a commitment to environmental sustainability. Spearheaded and agreed upon by scientists, NGOs and stakeholders to create a credible and reliable way to make sustainable choices, the EU flower label is a voluntary scheme designed to help identify products (and services) that are kinder to the environment throughout their life cycle, from extraction of raw materials through to production, use and disposal; it is awarded only to those products with the lowest environmental impact. APOCCAS uses EU-Flower certified cotton yarns where possible; our respective products are clearly labelled to that avail so our customers can make an informed choice about their purchase. For further information, please check the EU-Commission guidelines on Eco-label.

Apoccas

What does the certificate ‘Supima’ cotton stand for?
The name "Supima®" is a licensed trademark owned by Supima and its members. Supima is an abbreviation for Superior Pima cotton which is a generic name for extra-long staple (ELS) cotton grown in the U.S., Australia, Peru and in very limited production elsewhere. The primary difference between Pima and upland cotton are the staple length, and both strength and fineness of the fibre.
The Supima® trademark is the consumer's only guarantee that a product is made of 100% American Pima cotton. With its superior fibre quality, Supima yarn will improve the durability and increase the lifespan of its woven textiles; it will enhance the feel and softness as well as drapeability and brilliance of colour.
APOCCAS uses Supima® cotton yarns in a number of its products; it is clearly labelled on the care and composition tags so our customers can make an informed choice about their purchase. For further information, please check the following guidelines on Supima®.

What does ‘Swiss eco-friendly dyestuff’ mean?
In our product descriptions we refer to ‘Swiss eco-dyes’ or ‘Swiss eco-friendly dyes’. Huntsman, a global manufacturer of differentiated chemicals and maker of AVIERA™SE, the eco-friendly dye used in many of our fibres, recently shifted its global headquarters from Switzerland to Singapore thus making the reference technically no longer valid. The fabric dyeing process with AVIERA SE contributes significantly to the sustainability of one of our most precious resources – water – but it also decreases the energy consumption, as well as carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions during the dyeing and washing-off process.

This matters.

By 2030, the world demand for fresh water will increase by 40 per cent. Textile dyeing and finishing processes consume vast amounts of water – in the very parts of the world where it is most scarce. As environmental awareness grows, so does demand for textiles produced in more sustainable ways – yet at low cost.

Up to 26 gallons (100 litres) of water is needed to dye just two pounds (one kilogram) of cotton fabric. With AVITERA™ SE, water usage is reduced to just three to five gallons (15 to 20 litres) per two pounds of material. With the new dyeing technology, one quart (1.3 litres) of fresh water per person per day could potentially be saved. For further information on AVITERA SE please click here.

APOCCAS uses cotton yarns with ‘Swiss eco-friendly dyes’ or Huntsman AVITERA SE dyes in yarn of a number of its products; it is clearly labelled on the care and composition tags so our customers can make an informed choice about their purchase.

Apoccas

What are ‘botanical’ dyes?
‘Botanical’ or ‘natural’ or ‘vegetable’ or ‘plant’ dyes are obtained from natural sources, most commonly from vegetables, such as plants, trees and lichens, with a few from insects. Natural dyeing methods date back some 4,000 years but only a dozen of these extracts found widespread use mostly pertaining to the highly unstable nature of the colour on cloth. Colourfastness is both a science and an art. Our villagers are experts in dyeing and weaving. Their acquired skillsets are a result of century old traditions passed down from generation to generation. Please see our individual garment dye tags for more information about the respective villagers’ expertise on specific dyes and their particulars and properties.

Apoccas

What does APOCCAS mean by ‘up-cycle silk’?
Upcycling is the process of converting waste materials or useless products into new materials or products of better quality or a higher environmental value. The strict requirements of “Thai Silk” or “Royal Thai Silk” as defined in the Royal Peacock logos, a list of classifications to uphold the tradition of Thai silk, only allow flawless cocoons and ensuing thread to pass quality control; anything less than immaculate is discarded and available for upcycling. Our artisans may use parts of these upcycle cocoons to spin silk material which is woven into APOCCAS designs; our products are clearly labelled to that avail so our customers can make an informed choice about their purchase.

Apoccas

What does APOCCAS mean by vegan?
Veganism is the practice of abstaining from the use of animal products. APOCCAS classifies all products as vegan that do not contain leather, wool, silk, horn, shell or any other substance produced from animals.

Apoccas

What is ‘Ahimsa silk’ or ‘Peace silk’?
Ahimsa Silk, also known as Peace Silk, is processed from cocoons without killing the silkworm pupae inside. Instead of boiling or steaming the cocoon and killing the animal inside, the moth lives out its life cycle and emerges from the cocoon by breaking through it. The cocoon is then not reeled but spun into thread which makes the silk yarn fluffier and warmer; the process is cruelty-free. "Ahimsa," meaning "nonviolence," is a part of Buddhist philosophy, stating that humans should refrain from inflicting any kind of suffering on others, including even the smallest of animals in the strictest sense of the word. Many vegetarians (and even some vegans) have decided that Peace Silk is a permissible way to wear silk without being in violation of their ethics code which does not endorse animal sacrifice. We urge caution. While the moth of an Ahimsa cocoon may be released alive it is commonly understood that most of these moths will find their way into local frying pans before being sold off as a delicacy in local food markets. APOCCAS may use non-violent Eri silk; please check the product label.

What does GOTS stand for?
The Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) is the worldwide leading textile processing standard for organic fibres, including ecological and social criteria. The aim of the standard is to define world-wide recognized requirements that ensure organic status of textiles, from harvesting of the raw materials, through environmentally and socially responsible manufacturing up to labelling in order to provide a credible assurance to the end consumer.

The EU organic regulation is the legal basis for the control of organic farming and food processing in Europe. The Global Organic Textile Standard has the EU organic regulation as its baseline: it starts where the European Legislation ends. This legislation contains (amongst other standards): standards for crop production, standards for livestock, husbandry: e.g. duration of transport of livestock shall be minimized; any suffering, including mutilation, shall be kept to a minimum during the entire life of the animal.

Organic is a ‘whole system’ approach to farming and food production. It recognizes the close interrelationships between all parts of the production system from the soil to the consumer.

Agricultural principles are as follows:
To produce food of high quality in sufficient quantity. To work within natural systems and cycles throughout all levels from the soil to plants and animals. To maintain the long term fertility and biological activity of soils. To treat livestock ethically, meeting their physiological and behavioural needs. To respect regional, environmental, climatic and geographic differences and (appropriate) practices that have evolved in response to them.

Organic farming: Organic farming means livestock has to be managed with special care for their welfare and health, the animals’ behavioural needs should be satisfied. It goes beyond merely avoiding cruelty. One should: aim to prevent disease and injury, increase the ability of stock to resist infection, parasitic attack and metabolic disorders, and increase their ability to overcome injury by rapid healing.

Animals should enjoy the ‘five freedoms’ - freedom from: malnutrition, physical discomfort and extremes of temperature, injury and disease, fear and distress, unnecessary restrictions of behaviour.

Environmental criteria: At all stages through the processing organic fibre products must be separated from conventional fibre products and must to be clearly identified. All chemical inputs (e.g. dyes, auxiliaries and process chemicals) must be evaluated and meeting basic requirements on toxicity and biodegradability/eliminability. Prohibition of critical inputs such as toxic heavy metals, formaldehyde, aromatic solvents, functional nano particles, genetically modified organisms (GMO) and their enzymes. The use of synthetic sizing agents is restricted; knitting and weaving oils must not contain heavy metals. Bleaches must be based on oxygen (no chlorine bleaching). Azo dyes that release carcinogenic amine compounds are prohibited. Discharge printing methods using aromatic solvents and plastisol printing methods using phthalates and PVC are prohibited. Restrictions for accessories (e.g. no PVC, nickel or chrome permitted, any polyester must be post-consumer recycled from 2014 onwards). All operators must have an environmental policy including target goals and procedures to minimize waste and discharges. Wet processing units must keep full records of the use of chemicals, energy, water consumption and waste water treatment, including the disposal of sludge. The waste water from all wet processing units must be treated in a functional waste water treatment plant. Packaging material must not contain PVC.
